LESSON OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson you should be able to.

(i) apply reflection in the Cartesian plane

(ii)identify congruent triangles


Reflection as a transformation

If a mirror is placed on line m as shown above a shape similar to the shape appears in the mirror is referred to as the image. The first shape is called the object the process of reflecting an object to get an image using a mirror is referred to as reflection. Note: i. The image and object are of the same shape and size ii. The distance from the object to the mirror line is equal to the distance from the image to the mirror line (show distance in different colours in drawing) iii. The line joining any point on the object to a corresponding point on the image is perpendicular to the mirror line.
