Use the given table of a deck of cards to answer the questions below.

A card is drawn from a well shuffled ordinary pack of cards. Find the probability of drawing

a) a diamond; b) a red card; c) a queen; d) a 3 of hearts

Solution

a) The number of diamonds in the pack are 13

P (diamond) = 13/52 = 1/4

b) In the pack of 52 the red cards are hearts and diamonds. The hearts are 13 and the diamond cards

P(red card) = 26/52 = 1/2

c) The number of gueens are 4

P(queens) = 4/52 = 1/13

d) The number of hearts are 13 out of 52

P(3 hearts) = 1/52
